The Department of Education (DepEd) has launched a community mapping initiative to help identify out-of-school youth and adults (OSYA) for the Alternative Learning System (ALS) enrollment for the school year 2025-2026. This initiative aims to provide more educational opportunities to those who missed formal schooling.
ALS implementers, including teachers from local schools, will lead the mapping effort by conducting surveys in underserved communities to gather data on individuals aged 16 and above who may benefit from ALS. The goal is to create a comprehensive list of potential learners, especially in rural areas and urban communities.
By working with local government units (LGUs) and barangay officials, the mapping will ensure that ALS reaches those who need it most. The program offers flexible learning options for individuals seeking to complete their education and earn certifications equivalent to formal schooling.
DepEd officials are urging all OSYA to take part in the mapping process, which will run over the next few months. This effort is part of the broader plan to expand access to education and ensure that more Filipino youth and adults can improve their skills and knowledge.
