January 31, 2025 – The Department of Education (DepEd), through the National Educators Academy of the Philippines (NEAP), successfully conducted the second day of the online orientation for school heads on the Revised K-12 Curriculum. The session, aimed at equipping school leaders with crucial knowledge about the updated curriculum, saw widespread participation from school heads across the country.
The second day of the orientation focused on providing school heads with a deep understanding of the major changes in the K-12 curriculum and how they will impact administrative functions, teaching practices, and student assessments. The session was designed to ensure that school leaders are well-prepared to support their teachers in implementing the new guidelines effectively in classrooms nationwide.
Experts from DepEd and NEAP discussed in detail the adjustments made to various subjects, emphasizing a shift towards a more student-centered approach that promotes critical thinking, digital literacy, and creative problem-solving. The orientation also provided guidance on integrating technology into lessons and how school heads can ensure that teachers have the necessary resources and support to adapt to the updated curriculum.
A significant portion of the session was dedicated to the role of school heads in overseeing the smooth implementation of the curriculum. Participants were briefed on how to monitor progress in both teaching and learning, manage curriculum delivery challenges, and provide professional development opportunities for their faculty.
Additionally, school heads were introduced to new tools and instructional materials that will be used to support the revised curriculum. Discussions also centered on the updated assessment methods that focus on holistic student development, moving away from traditional tests and embracing more formative, skill-based evaluations.
Throughout the day, participants were encouraged to actively engage in discussions and share their thoughts on the practical aspects of curriculum implementation. Facilitators provided solutions and strategies to address common challenges, ensuring that school heads are well-prepared to lead their schools effectively during this transition period.
The online orientation is part of DepEd’s broader initiative to ensure the nationwide roll-out of the revised K-12 curriculum is as smooth as possible. As the program continues, additional training sessions are planned to address grade-level and subject-specific updates, further supporting the teachers and administrators involved in the change process.
By the end of the orientation, school heads were expected to have a comprehensive understanding of the revised K-12 curriculum and the tools they need to guide their schools through its successful implementation.
