Global handwashing is celebrated every year on October 15th. And like every year, the day serves as a platform for raising global awareness about the importance of handwashing with soap. It is an international campaign to encourage and mobilize people around the world to improve hand washing. “Hand Hygiene for All” is the theme of this year’s Global Handwashing Day, following a recent World Health Organization initiative calling for improved hand hygiene. This is the day dedicated to spread awareness and understanding the importance of handwashing.
Handwashing activities like awareness campaign through the use of social media, simultaneous handwashing of parents together with their kids at home, photo contest for hand washing poster, handwashing dance contest and posting of posters of proper handwashing near wash facilities were initiated in our school to raise global awareness on the importance of handwashing with soap.
During the virtual program, winners were given digital certificates as well as those who participated in the simultaneous hand washing activity which was done at home with the cooperation of parents, teachers, school nurse and our school principal.
The said activities were successfully done. We also asked permission and get parents’ consent to use the photos and videos submitted to us in promoting hand washing awareness in our school.
With these activities, our school promoted, “Washing our hands with water is the best way to avoid getting sick and spreading germs”. This year, as we all are facing the ongoing coronavirus disease, Global handwashing day must be celebrated effectively by spreading the message of washing hands for at least 20 seconds. Everyone must practice washing hands with soap for hand hygiene and stop the spread of Covid 19.
Hand washing has been one of the most effective ways during pandemic of (COVID 19), strengthening the message that hygiene of our hands is equally important in preventing and maintaining our health. Hand washing with soap and water was not only easy and cheap, but the number of people who get sick can also be significantly reduced. Washing hands with soap and water must be a priority both now and the future to ensure good health beyond pandemic.
