MMES at 50 : A Golden Celebration of Triumph in Innovative Advocacy and Quality Education

MMES at 50 : A Golden Celebration of Triumph in Innovative Advocacy and Quality Education by: Albert C. Colasito      Marcela Marcelo Elementary School marked its 50th Foundation Anniversary this September, starting its roots as an annex of Timoteo Paez Elementary School in 1972 until it became an independent institution at the heart of the Malibay district and presently becoming a homeground for exceptionally-skilled and competitive learners.      The celebration has a theme of “Marcela, Limampung Taon na Matatag Patuloy na Susulong at Magiging Matatag.”      To signify the giving of honor to “Selang Bagsik” flowers were offered to the bust figure of the heroine in the school and at the statue located at the Malibay Plaza last September 17, 2022.  The ceremonial offering of flowers was participated by the Parents-Teachers Association officers led by Mr. Edel A. Matias, Faculty Officers led by Mrs. Rowena C. Lazaro, MMES Alumni Association, Barangay Officials, Mr. Reynaldo L. Yakit, school principal, and several teachers.      The glorious legacy of MMES’ 50th foundation anniversary  was  celebrated in a festive program held at the covered court last September 24, 2022  . It started with an opening prayer followed by the singing of the Philippine National Anthem, Pasay hymn and the MMES hymn. The opening remarks was delivered by the school principal, Mr. Reynaldo L. Yakit. On a mob dance , everyone was exuberant following  the moves being shown on the video. The next part was an amusing display of talent by the MMES Drum and Lyre Band. It was followed by the 70s Dance Presentation of Kinder and Grade one teachers.       An inspirational message was delivered by  the Public Schools Division Supervisor of Cluster 3, Dr. Lovelynn Jane Bacera.       The Supreme Pupil Government officers exhibited their poetry skills on stage while the Grade two and three teachers turned back the time by presenting 80’s dance number.  A video message from former school heads and teachers was shown through an audio visual presentation. Also, a video from the alumni association revealed the memories of the past 50 years via “time capsule” slideshow.       Participants were instantly  transported to the 90’s era with an intermission number from the Grade four teachers  and non-teaching personnel.       The history of MMES was reminisced through a video presentation as well as the life of the lady heroine, Marcela Marcelo.       The teachers of Grades five and six presented a 60’s dance number followed by a special presentation of TikTok dance craze by the School Parents-Teachers Association officers.       Certificates were awarded to the members of the alumni, SPTA, barangay officials and guests who attended the celebration. Also present on this event are former teachers of MMES.       The program ended with a closing remarks from Mr. Eugenio Delos Reyes, MMESAA Ad Hoc Officer.       The masters of ceremonies were Mr. Albert C. Colasito and Mrs. Irene L. Parba.
