Early Registration sa Marcela, Sinimulan na! by Rowena C. Lazaro Sinimulan na noong Sabado, Unang araw ng Pebrero, 2020 ang Early Registration sa Paaralang Marcela Marcelo. Isinagawa ang kick-off parade at launching program sa pamumuno ni Bb. Norma B. Jamon, punong guro ng MMES na sinuportahan at dinaluhan ng lahat ng mga guro, mga mag-aaral at mga magulang. Kaugnay nito, sinimulan na rin ng mga kaguruan na suyurin at hanapin ang mga street children, out of school youth at iba pang indibidwal na gusto pang mag-aral. Hinihikayat ng paaralan na bumalik sa eskwelahan sa ilalim ng Alternative Learning System (ALS) ang mga mag-aaral na matagal nang tumigil sap ag-aaral. Samantalang target naman ng Paaralan ang maagang pagpaparehistro ng mga batang 5 taong gulang na papasok sa kindergarten at mga tutuntong sa grade 1 hanggang grade 6. Magtatagal ang early registration hanggang March 6, 2020.

Marcelanians Reap Medals in the 40th PCSPCC by Rowena C. Lazaro Ten Marcelanians recently brought pride to the school as they reaped 10 medals in the recent 40th Pasay City Schools Press and Contests (PCSPCC). It was held last September 3-5, 2019 at Jose Rizal Elementary School, Pasay City. The conference theme was “ Fostering Literacy on Campus Journalistic Writing”. It is one of the most prestigious contest ofthe Department of Education (DepEd). The event featured the Elementary and High School Campus Journalists. The press conference included inspirational message from the Schools Division Superintendent, Dr. Evangeline P. Ladines as she talked about being agents of positive change as Journalists in the ever changing context of the Philippines.Ten finalists were chosen in each category and was awarded at Friday’s culminating event. For individual awards, Jean Marchienette Viray won 5th place in “Feature Writing English”; Irish Nicole Teodosio won 8thplace in “ Newswriting English”; Alyssa Nicole Labandia won 5th place in “ Pagwawasto at Pag-uulo ng Balita”; Julianna May G. Tomas won 9th place in “ Science and Health Writing English”, and Yutomo Dominic Abiad won 3rd Place in “ Photo Journalism”. For Group categories awards, Samuel Ybriel Manalansan won “Best in Script Writing and Best Team Broadcasting”;Jennelyn C. Abendano, Jamaila Maverick, Mary Zephyrish Pearl Torres and Jerome Saldana won 1st Place in “Collaborative Writing English/Filipino”. These pupils are off to the Regional Press Conference this October 2019 where they will represent the city in hopes of qualifying for the National Conference next year.

Validation of School’s Best Practices

Validation of School’s Best Practices by: Errol John P. Ruiz In order to intensify the School Monitoring Evaluation and Adjustments (SMEA), the Schools Division Office conducted a validation of the best practices of every schools in the division. MMES identified two best practices, “Project BAGSIC” which stands for Beautification AndGreening the School Initiative and Cleanliness Campaign and “Project ROSE” or Read One Story Everyday. The validation team was composed of the Officer-In-Charge of the Office of the Assistant Schools Division Superintendent, Dr. Melody Cruz, Mr. Librado F. Torres, CID Chief and Ms. Flair S. Pajarillaga, in-charge of the Division Monitoring Evaluation and Adjustments (DMEA). The panel had a face to face interview with the proponents of the project as well as the school head, Mr. Noel F. Junio. Project BAGSIC was conceptualized last school year by Mr. Errol John P. Ruiz, MMES Master Teacher 2. It aims to promote beautification and greening of the school campus through collaboration among teachers, pupils, parents and stakeholders in planting flowers and plants around the school. It also supports the implementation and intensification of the Go Green Program and the revival of the GulayansaPaaralan Program. The project also promotesadherence to school policies regarding proper waste disposal and supports the “Marcela ay Pagandahin, MgaKalat ay Pulutin” Campaign. It also encourages active participation of stakeholders in school activities, programsand projects and address problem in absenteeism. On the other hand, Project ROSE was originally introduced by Mr. Noel Junio, School Principal and implemented by Grade Two Teachers. The project aims to develop pupil’s comprehension level, enrich vocabularies,  and rekindle love for reading of pupils in grade two through reading one story everyday before the class starts and during free time. This routinary activity develops habit in reading at the same time practice fluency and spelling. The validation lasted for an hour. The proponents successfully defended their projects with help of the school head. This division initiative truly helps the school to seriously implement programs and projects. It also encourages teachers to develop their conceptualizing skills in making projects that will address the gaps in the educational scene.

“The Journey of an Outstanding Teacher” An SDO Pasay City Teacher Induction Program Initiative by Ana Mae G. Gelacio The newly-hired teachers of DepEd Pasay City was initiated through an Orientation Seminar on Teacher Induction Program last August 23, 2019 at the Eurotel Hotel, Makati City. It has been a fruitful engagement for the new generation of teachers where they learned so many things as they start their journey in the field of education. To inspire the newly-hired teachers, the SDO invited one of the Most Outstanding Teacher of the Division of Pasay City, Mr. Errol John P. Ruiz, Master Teacher 2 of Marcela Marcelo Elementary School to share his Journey as an Outstanding Teacher. Mr. Ruiz was the 2018 Most Outstanding Public Servant of Pasay City in Education given by the Knights of Columbus. On the same year he was also awarded  forGawadKagalingansaPagtuturo by the SDO Pasay City. He was also the delegate to the 2016 Korea-Philippines  Exchange Teachers Programme for Global Education in Seoul Korea. He shared his decade of experience in the service to the new generation of teachers in the division. His journey as a teacher wasn’t easy. It entails discipline, hard work and dedication to the service. He also shared to the new generation of teachers his personalized 10 Commandments. According to him new generation of teachers must respect the seasoned teachers, devote time and energy for the school, be punctual and avoid absenteeism, be active and creative. He also reiterated to always show respect to the school heads. Above all he reminded the participants to aim to be promoted because it will serve as a challenge and inspiration to do better. Truly Mr. Ruiz’s journey is worth emulating and it serves as an inspiration to all newly-hired teachers to be dedicated in this chosen field. The whole day event was a great success for it prepared the newly-hired teachers on their journey in the field of education for the coming years.

Marcelanian Bags DFSPG Presidency by Merle R. Buenasflores             Another Marcelanian marked a milestone as she bagged the Division Federation Supreme Pupil Government presidency during the election held last July 11, 2019. Julianna May G. Tomas, grade six pupil and the incumbent MMES SPG Mayor once again proved that Marcelanians are competent, competitive and born to be leaders.               Among twenty schools, thirteen schools participated during the election held at the Schools Division Office. SPG Mayors coming from different schools were given a minute to introduce themselves. After which, the election took place. Julianna was nominated for president together with the other three nominees. The ELECOM would have forgotten to write her name as a nominee because they missed to hear it. As a result, her name was placed in the last row of the tally sheet. Despite of this, she beat the other nominees and ensured the winning as the president.               “I am just being friendly with them by asking their names and ages,” uttered Julianna, newly elected DFSPG President after the successful election.Julianna proved that Marcelanians can keep pace with other schools being the first Marcelanians elected as president of Division Federation Supreme Pupil Government.

Nutrition Month

Pushing for a Healthy Lifestyle by Gelyn R. Lagman Nutrition Month is an annual nutrition education and information campaign to focus on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating at physical activity habits. As a gesture of support to the government’s program in the yearly celebration of Nutrition Month, Marcela Marcelo Elementary School held a parade and opening program on July 5, 2019. Mr. Errol John P. Ruiz Master Teacher II/ Officer In charge on that day formally started the program with great enthusiasm. Ms. Elyna Santos the school nurse gave an informative talk about “PinggangPinoy” to enhance knowledge on healthy diet and effective practice. Students in respective grade levels also proved that they are all healthy by showcasing their talents in singing dancing rap and poetry. Kinder Pupils showcased their talents in Fruit Juice preparation using fresh fruits with the help of their respective advisers. Meanwhile grade one pupils also prepare healthy sandwichesin their respective classrooms while grade two and three showed their creativity and skills in preparing vegetable and fruit salad at MMES Covered Court. The intermediate level led by grades four, five and six unveiled their cooking skills through a Cooking Festival where they preparednutritious dishes. Selected grade four pupils prepared maja and cookies while grade five pupils demonstrated their skills in cooking by preparing different dishes using chicken pork beef and vegetables. The students also made slogans promoting a healthy lifestyle. Teachers also participated during the culminating activity. Mr. Carlos S. Belicano shared his skills in cooking. He cooked shanghai rolls using string beans and squash. To highlight the battle cry“ MagingAktibo”, a ZUMBA SA MARCELA was spearheaded by Ms. Edna Casino. Zumba dancers were invited to perform during the culminating activity. Teachers and pupils actively participated during the Zumba session.In this modern time where life span of humans is becoming short, it is right to push and promote a healthy lifestyle. It is the responsibility of the school to inculcate to the young minds of the school children the importance of good nutrition to be able to perform well in school and be free from sickness and other health problems. dav dav dav dav dav sdr
